Companion Care

Depending on your family member's personal needs and wants, a Companion caregiver (companions or “sitters”) can be responsible for all of the following Activities of Daily Living. You can utilize as few or as many services as needed. The only limiting factor is the number of hours of service you select each week. Your caregivers can provide:

Joyful Companionship is often the simplest, yet most valuable service Companion caregivers provide. Your loved one will have a Companion who is focused on your loved one's interests. Some examples include:

  • Playing cards or games
  • Helping with a crossword puzzle
  • Reading newspapers, magazines or novels
  • Engaging in conversation
  • Assisting with correspondence
  • Arranging and reminding of calendar appointments
  • Accompanying on a walk
  • Reminding to bathe, take medication, or do prescribed range-of-motion exercises
  • Assisting with sewing, needlepoint, or knitting
  • Assisting with grooming (hair care, hand/nail care, facial care, etc.)
  • Even hearing repeated stories about the marvelous accomplishments of grandchildren and great grandchildren

Meal Preparation is important to good health. Frequently seniors who attempt to live independently have difficulty maintaining a healthy diet, which can lead to a variety of other issues. While the caregivers we refer to you will not use undue influence, simply having the capability to obtain and prepare balanced meals will allow your loved one to make better dietary decisions. Companion caregivers offer a complete continuum of meal services, from start to finish, including:

  • Planning menus
  • Shopping
  • Putting groceries away
  • Cooking
  • Serving
  • Feeding assistance
  • Storage of food leftovers
  • Kitchen clean-up

Light Household Tasks are often part of the responsibilities of Companion caregivers. Maintaining a healthy environment can be as important as maintaining a healthy body since mental and emotional health are all influenced by our surroundings. Companion caregivers may be asked to provide light household tasks including:

  • Emptying trash
  • Straightening client's living area
  • Laundering client's personal garments and bedding

Community Involvement can be critical for clients’ mental and emotional health. Your Companion caregivers may assist with:

  • Errands
  • Shopping
  • Dining and restaurants
  • Walks
  • Movies and theatre
  • Church services
  • Docctor appointments

Travel Companions is another service that is provided by Companion caregivers. Adventurers of all ages take trips with a companion when a family member or close friend can not accompany them. It’s safer, less tiring, and more fun to journey in the company of a comrade. Whether your loved one is mobility or vision impaired – or even if he or she simply prefers not to travel alone, Companions can accommodate anything from short notice emergencies to the most meticulously planned and individually tailored excursion. To ensure enjoyment and safety during your loved one’s next trip, Companions can assist with:

  • Visiting local family or friends
  • Accompanying on long-distance trips and vacations
  • Accompanying to or from the Airport (daytime and after-hours)
  • Extended shopping excursions
  • Day trips to art shows, community events, concerts, sporting events, or club meetings

Errand Assistance is another valuable service that can be easily handled by your Companion caregiver. Whether you require short-term or long-term assistance, you or your loved one may have a temporary or permanent need for someone to assist you with the routine errands of a normal day. Examples of services that your Companion caregiver can provide are:

  • Shopping for groceries, home goods, or clothing
  • Picking up prescriptions from the pharmacy
  • Picking up and dropping off laundry or dry cleaning
  • Caring for house plants
  • Doing your laundry
  • Retrieving and reading mail
  • Assisting with crafts and hobbies
  • Selecting and laying out apparel
  • Sorting and organizing photographs
  • Working on family scrapbooks or family history
  • Assisting with purchasing or wrapping gifts

Bedside Sitting services can also be provided by your Companion caregivers. Your loved one does not stop being a client just because they experience illness. If your parent or spouse requires facility-based medical care, your Companion caregivers can continue serving at your pleasure. The caregiver can be a familiar personal assistant while your loved one recovers and will be a blessing when needed most. All of our in-home referral services are also available while in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, or even skilled nursing facilities.
